How did you know the Addison was the right venue for your wedding?

Samantha:  I always knew I wanted to get married at the Addison! My family had hosted several events there celebrating various occasions and I had just fallen in love with the property. I didn’t want the typical run-of-the-mill hotel space for our wedding and the Addison is anything but that.  Joshua and I wanted something different and distinctive for our special day. When I approached Joshua about selecting the Addison for our wedding, he quickly got onboard. The Banyan trees in the courtyard are just such a breathtaking backdrop for a wedding ceremony. At previous Addison events I had attended the service had always been far superior and the food is out of this world amazing. The venue also fit right into the vintage feel we wanted for our big day.

What was the most helpful piece of advice you received during the planning process?

Samantha:  The most helpful piece of advice I received was to never forget our wedding was just that… OUR wedding.  Everyone has suggestions and ideas, but the wedding is ultimately about us as a couple and the love we share. We were told to listen to all of the suggestions and recommendations but to make our choices and decisions based on what made US happy. We wanted the wedding to be as different and unique as we are, so we incorporated small little touches that ensured the celebration would be distinctly Samantha & Joshua!

Your hair and makeup were stunning and you topped your look off with a beautiful and unique headpiece. Did you build your look around the headpiece or was it something you added last minute? Tell us the story of that headpiece!

Samantha:  My super creative mom actually made my headpiece! Joshua and I really wanted our wedding to be unique and different, so having personalized, one-of-a-kind details was important. Because my dress was so simple, with no intricate beading or lace, I knew I wanted a statement headpiece. I didn’t go into the process with an idea for what it would look like, I just knew I wanted something over-the-top, with a vintage flare.  My mom picked up elements for the piece here and there as we got closer to the wedding date. I love her creativity and knew whatever she made would be beautiful.  Making the decision for a simple, up-do hairstyle did not take much deliberation since we knew from the beginning the hairpiece would be the focal point!

Cindy: Your wedding cake was so different and creative. How did you choose the cake design?

Samantha:  Again, we wanted to continue with the vintage feel while still remaining completely unique. We were influenced by an Art Deco inspired cake we spotted on TheKnot.com. Nancy at Creative Cake Factory used the example for inspiration and came up with an amazing concept. We personalized the cake by incorporating our wedding colors of eggplant, lavender and gray as well as having an Art Deco inspired topper. We also integrated different design elements such as scalloping and color gradation.

What do you think your guests will remember most about the night?

Samantha: Everyone raved about the food! While our guests certainly enjoyed the music and the photo booth, the food is what I am still hearing about! We had a cocktail hour and a formal seated dinner for 110 people and the Addison executed the service and the food flawlessly and the butler passed Hors d’Oeurves were amazing. So many of my guests told me the Chilean Sea Bass was the best dish they had ever tasted!
